The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act, Pub. L. 114-94) amended section 13031 of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985 (19 U.S.C. 58c) by requiring certain customs COBRA user fees and corresponding limitations to be adjusted by the Secretary of the Treasury (“Secretary”) to reflect certain increases in inflation.
On November 1, 2017, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) published in the Federal Register a general notice [CBP Dec. 17-17] announcing the specific fees and corresponding limitations to be adjusted for inflation effective January 1, 2018.
The MPF rate for Formal Entries ($2,500 or more) remains unchanged at 0.3464 percent, but the minimum MPF increases to $25.67 and the maximum, to $497.99
The MPF for Informal Entries (under $2,500) is a set fee per shipment and will increase to $2.05 (automated), $6.16 (manual) or $9.24 (prepared by CBP).
