The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has reached a tentative agreement on a six-year Master Contract with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). The current USMX-ILA Contract expires on September 30, 2018. The tentative agreement will remove much uncertainty and ensure labor accord through the year 2024 for the U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast.
“We have reached a tentative agreement on a six-year Master contract that is beneficial to both sides,” said Harold J. Daggett, ILA President and David F. Adam, Chairman of USMX. Click here for the full post shared on the ILA website.
The agreement must still be ratified by the union’s local members as part of their negotiations on local issues, but the union’s 200-member wage scale committee did recommend ratification unanimously. Both sides encouraged the local groups to finalize by July 10th, prior to full membership ratification votes by the ILA rank and file members, and the USMX.
The deal is similar to the U.S. West Coast ports labor deal reached last summer, and together, the two contracts should bring labor stability in the U.S. Market through 2022, when the West Coast deal expires.
