“Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 214,000 in October, and the unemployment rate edged down to 5.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in food services and drinking places, retail trade, and health care.”
Both the unemployment rate (5.8 percent) and the number of unemployed persons
(9.0 million) edged down in October. Since the beginning of the year, the
unemployment rate and the number of unemployed persons have declined by 0.8 percentage point and 1.2 million, respectively.
In October “For-hire trucking” added 3,900 jobs, this brings the total number to 32,600 for this segment in 2014, according to the Labor Department.
